Welcome to Access Institute’s
nationally renowned
pre-doctoral & post-masters
internship training program.

Access Institute trains the next generation of mental health professionals
with a psychoanalytic & community-service focus.

At Access Institute you are taught by contemporary thinkers
who have evolved psychoanalytic practice in meaningful ways.

This intensive program trains 20 interns over a two year period during which time they provide clinical services and receive training and supervision from some of the Bay Area’s top clinicians. All interns receive a minimum of two hours per week of individual supervision and participate in a didactic curriculum designed to support their work within the community clinic. Seminars are progressive throughout the two-year period and are designed to facilitate the building of interns’ clinical thinking, and the development of their clinical voices within the psychoanalytic tradition.

At Access Institute we take our interns’ experiences seriously, and build a supportive community of peers and professionals to bolster their growth and education.

Immersion is everything. There are many dimensions to the internship: reading, discussion, theory, cohort relationships, specialized training, classes, group and one-on-one support. All this makes up about one-half of each week. The other half is spent providing therapy to patients, many whom are seen multiple times per week and for the entire 2-years of the internship.
